Dolls in Outer Space & What’s New at Target? // July 2018

Hi everyone! I’ve downloaded Photoshop again, and today I decided that it would be fun to play around with it, just to get the hang of the software again.

While I was creating this image, I realised it would be the perfect tool to add some ~special effects~ to my photostories! Perhaps a space-themed photostory is on the way?

This image is definitely my favourite.

I think it would be cool if I had the 2018 Robotics Barbie doll -isn’t her outfit awesome? She would make a nice addition to the Space Adventure Team™.

This image is my least favourite -I don’t like how her hair suddenly cuts off, and it looks like she’s vacantly staring at the camera.

Yes, I did try to fit the astronaut outfit on Zapp! It just didn’t work, so I had to settle for a blue t-shirt.

I definitely want to edit more pictures of dolls in the future -perhaps I can do an underwater mermaid photoshoot next? That would be fun!

In other news…

They have remodelled my local Target store, which means there isn’t as many Barbie products as there was before.

On the top shelf, we can see the Careers Teacher playset for $29. I’m not a fan of unarticulated, generic dolls, so this one was a pass for me.

On the second shelf, we can see the Dreamtopia mermaids and princesses for $13. I think they are pretty, but not worth buying. I love the multicoloured hair, but I don’t have enough spare bodies! Next along is the Newborn Pups for $24 (totally not my thing), and the Colour Surprise Doll for $29.

I think the Colour Surprise doll is really cool -I love her pink hair, and her galaxy dress is really cool! But again, rebodying is an issue and I wouldn’t actually use the patterns you’re supposed to put on her hair.

On the third shelf, we can see some Dreamtopia feature fairies and princesses, both $24. Although I can acknowledge that they’d be super fun for a child, I think they’re both pretty cheap-looking.

On the last shelf, there’s the Dolphin Magic boat for $29, and a house for $39. Both prices are so cheap! I don’t really need either a boat or a new house, but they are definitely a bargain.

And that’s the selection at Target! Unfortunately there wasn’t any Fashionistas for sale, and no Skipper Babysitter or Made to Move dolls either. I’d really like for the Barbie Style line to come back, that was really cool! I would have loved to buy the Midge doll, with the white circle glasses.

Also, can you believe this is my 300th post? How crazy! ☆

  1. Whoa, those look really great, Holly! I wouldn’t have even known what I was doing. I’ve never tried Photoshop before, but it looks pretty interesting.

I agree with you 100% about those Dreamtopia dolls. They all look super cheaply made, and all have that incredibly annoying painted-on tops. Not my thing at all, that’s for sure. I’m guessing they’re probably trying to sell them all off as quickly as possible since there hasn’t been a single Dreamtopia episode since April. I don’t know what’s up with that.

Also, I, too, would love for the Style line to make a comeback! It’s been so long since we’ve seen Midge, Teresa, Summer, and the rest of her friends on store shelves. They could even do themed playsets for school, the beach, camping-the possibilities seem endless! Plus, I think it’d be a great way to re-introduce Barbie’s friends on the shelves again, which they have been absent from since 2015 or something.

    1. Yes, totally! Themed style dolls would be so cool -sign me up for the camping set! It would be neat if they made matching playsets to go along with them, too.

It has been ages since we’ve seen Barbie’s friends in doll-form. Funny -you’d think they would make dolls based off the Dreamhouse Adventures series.

I wonder if the lack of episodes means Dreamtopia is cancelled? It certainly wouldn’t bother me if it was! I can live without cheap fairytale-themed dolls.

  2. Wow – you are amazing at Photoshop!
I agree about the Dreamtopia dolls – if I was still 4 years old I would be THRILLED about it looking so ‘pretty’, but now my definition of ‘pretty’ has changed.

    1. Definitely -I think when I was younger, I didn’t really care about what the dolls looked like, so I didn’t have a problem with ugly faces or bad outfits. But now I want my dolls to look nicer!
